Family day care in a real home, south of the river
WA Bright Kids is based on Albany Highway in East Victoria Park. Our registered educators look after small groups of children in their own homes across Perth's southern suburbs.

How family day care works
Family day care (sometimes called home daycare) is regulated, government-subsidised childcare that happens in an educator's house instead of a purpose-built centre. The national standards and the Child Care Subsidy are the same as a centre's. The day is smaller and calmer.
-
Small groups, by law
An educator can care for no more than seven children at a time, and no more than four of those can be under school age. That leaves plenty of time for each child.
-
One familiar face
Same educator, same house, same few friends every day. That consistency makes a big difference for babies and toddlers who are settling in.
-
Siblings stay together
Mixed ages are normal in family day care, so brothers and sisters can share a carer, and older kids can come before and after school.
-
Learning through everyday life
Baking, gardening, the local park and library. Our educators plan around the national Early Years Learning Framework, Belonging, Being and Becoming, which inspired our own motto.
Hours that suit your family
Each educator sets their own hours, so start and finish times vary a little from home to home. Tell us the days and times you need and we'll match you with an educator nearby who can do them.
- Full days and half daysRegular weekly bookings
- Before and after schoolFor school-aged kids up to 12
- Evenings, weekends and overnightAsk us, as it depends on which educators nearby have room
Fees and the Child Care Subsidy
Fees are charged by the hour and set by each educator, so they vary a little from home to home. Call us and we'll give you the current rates for educators near you.
We're approved for the Australian Government's Child Care Subsidy. It's paid directly to us and taken off your bill. Depending on your family income it covers up to 90% of the fee, up to the government's hourly rate cap.
Since January 2026, most eligible families get at least 72 subsidised hours a fortnight, about three days a week, regardless of work hours.

How is family day care different from a daycare centre?
A daycare centre (long day care) looks after larger groups of children in rooms sorted by age, with a team of staff and fixed opening hours. In family day care, one registered educator cares for up to seven children of mixed ages in their own home, with hours set by each educator. Both are approved for the Child Care Subsidy and follow the same national learning framework.
Who checks the educators and their homes?
Every educator is registered with us and holds (or is actively working towards) an approved early childhood qualification, plus a Working with Children Check and current first aid training. We assess each home for safety before care starts, and our coordinators visit regularly to support and monitor every educator. The service is approved and regulated under the National Quality Framework.
What happens if my educator is sick or on holiday?
Talk to us. For planned leave or sick days we'll go through the options with you, which can include care with another of our educators nearby who has room.
Do I need to pack food and nappies?
It depends on the educator. Some provide meals and others ask you to pack them. You'll go through food, nappies, sleep and routines when you visit the home.
Will my child learn as much as at a centre?
Family day care educators follow the same national learning framework as centres. With a small mixed-age group, they can follow each child's interests closely and keep track of how they're going.
“Great care with the kids, and very organised, friendly people.”
